EcoHub's first prawn shipment arrives from ATINA

EcoHub has received its first shipment from ATINA, a prawn processing facility in East Java, Indonesia. ATINA, part of the Asian Seafood Improvement Collaborative (ASIC), is a leader in the sustainable and responsible farming of black tiger prawns in the region. Together with EcoHub's partner FishTrax, the prawns can be traced back to the hatchery, the pond, and the farmer from which they came.

The mFarmer Platform is launched

The mFarmer platform, which was built by EcoHub with the support of UniLever's Foundry, has been launched in Indonesia and made available on Free Basics by Facebook. The mFarmer initiative aims to make farming supply chains more sustainable along with improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and their communities by developing practical solutions that use the power of readily available mobile technology.

Alistair Douglas runs Seminar on Seafood Quality at James Cook University, Singapore

Professor H. Allan Bremner and Alistair Douglas of EcoHub ran a seminar on Seafood Quality at James Cook University on May 19. The seminar examined how one defines, measures and communicates aspects of fish quality. In the seminar attendees were introduced to the Quality Index Method that Prof. Bremner pioneered and is now used throughout auction floors in Europe as a way to quantify the freshness attributes of seafood so that buyers can predict the remaining shelf life on ice and bid accordingly.

EcoHub & VCC team visit Jurong Cold Storage to see construction of new Automated Storage & Retrieval System

EcoHub and VCC visited the new cold store being constructed by project partner Jurong Cold Store. The facility will be using state of the art Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS&RS) technology to ensure cold chain best practice and improved product safety, quality and security.  The new facility will be virtualized as part of the Virtual Cold Store of EcoHub's platform.
